The ACS was founded in 1913, when a cancer diagnosis meant near certain death, with a mission to save and celebrate lives and lead the fight for a world without cancer.
Today, through their affiliate, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), they advocate for public policy change to ensure everyone has a fair & just opportunity to prevent, find, treat, and survive cancer – regardless of income, race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status, or location.
The P.E.A.R.L. Pledge grant will help ACS CAN establish proposed initiatives in Detroit and Cleveland to drive awareness for Breast Cancer screenings in majority black, urban neighborhoods.
The American Cancer Society represents the P.E.A.R.L. Pledge pillar:
Empowerment Pioneering the removal of barriers to cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and survivorship in Black communities, to overcome the health care disparities that can affect who develops cancer and who dies from it.
